Room & Furniture Layout Guides
Moving to a new home, it is a good idea to take some time and plan how your furniture
will fit into your new home. You can use the graph paper and furniture pieces
to help you layout out things will fit. Choose a room from the buttons on the
right to begin! You can print them and cut out the furniture pieces.
In order to download the graph paper and the different room pieces, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click here to download it for free.
Convert
your measurements to a 1/2" = 1" scale. Draw an outline of your room
on the graph paper; two squares of the graph equal one foot. if your room is
larger then 15'x21' you will need to tape two pages together.
Be sure to sketch in doors, windows, fireplaces and any other things that will
need to be considered in your layout.
Go through the pages of furniture and find those pieces that are closest to
your furniture and then begin moving them around to achieve the look that works
for you.
Keep in mind the traffic flow through a room.
Some guidelines to keep in mind:
- Major path of traffic 3'-4' wide
- Minor path of traffic 1 1/2'-2' wide
- Front door of house 4' wide
- Doors to rooms 3' wide
Have fun designing the layout for your new home.
